Recommendation Concerning Financial Assistance for the Town of Century, Florida - Jack R. Brown, County Administrator
That the Board approve paying two invoices from Thompson Tractor Company, Inc., (RS3500018046, in the amount of $2,953 and RS3500018044, in the amount of $7,089.20) and two invoices from Republic Services (0808-000447084, in the amount of $16,688.34 and 0808-000442644, in the amount of $10,725) for the Town of Century, to aid in their recovery from the EF-3 tornado that hit the town on Monday, February 15, 2016.
[The invoices total $37,455.54. The funding will come from Reserves for Operating and be paid from Cost Center 110201]
BACKGROUND:
On Monday, February 15, 2016, the Town of Century was struck by an EF-3 tornado that had winds estimated to be up to 155 miles per hour that damaged or totally destroyed 109 structures. The Town of Century didn’t have the approximate equipment to clean up the debris caused by the tornado, so they rented the equipment from Thompson Tractor Company, Inc., and hired Republic Services to remove the debris. The Town of Century thought that FEMA would reimburse them for expenses associated with the cleanup, but FEMA determined that the damage was not server enough to receive federal assistance.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
The invoices total $37,455.54. The funding will come from Reserves for Operating and be paid from Cost Center 110201.
