RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Scheduling of a Public Hearing on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at 5:37 p.m., to Consider an Ordinance Creating Chapter 90, Article 10, Providing for the Creation of a Countywide Independent Special District and a Governing Board to be known as the Escambia Children's Trust.

That the Board authorize the scheduling of a Public Hearing on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at 5:37 p.m. to consider an Ordinance creating Chapter 90, Article 10, providing for the creation of a countywide independent special district and a governing board to be known as the Escambia Children's Trust in the Escambia County Code of Ordinances.

BACKGROUND:

Interested citizens have approached the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners with a request to place this issue on the ballot as a referendum of the Escambia County voters. The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners addressed the item at its June 16, 2020, Committee of the Whole. The Board of County Commissioners is the entity which can direct the Supervisor of Elections to place the referendum on the ballot.

The proposed Ordinance was reviewed by Assistant County Attorney Kia M. Johnson, and will be advertised in the Pensacola News Journal on June 20, 2020.
