RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Escambia County Health Department Administrator - Janice P. Gilley, County Administrator

That the Board concur with the Florida State Surgeon General, Dr. Scott Rivkees, on the appointment of Marie Mott as the Administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County.

BACKGROUND:

This position serves one of the 67 County Health Departments in the State of Florida. Responsibilities include the direction, supervision, and evaluation of a wide variety of health programs including, but not limited to, environmental health, chronic disease, preparedness and response, family planning, communicable disease, and vital statistics.

The position requires extesive experience in the management and administration of public health programs, essential public health services, health policy issues, public health advocacy, and working with elected officials, governmental bodies, community partners, and the media; as well as a demonstrated knowledge of fiscal and budget management, human resource management, information systems, and a demonstrated capacity to lead an organization through a continuous quality management process.

POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:

County health departments sustain the partnership between the Florida Department of Health and County government pursuant to Section 154.04, Florida Statues. In keeping with state law, as well as the desire to maintain this important partnership, the Florida Department of Health works collectively with County government when selecting a new health department administrator.
