1. Call to Order & Opening Remarks - Chairman Charles Woodward
             
2. Roll Call & Declaration of Quorum - Susan Hendrix

Roll was called by Susan Hendrix. Members present during roll call: Gary Purvis, Jean Yarter, Karen Hall, David Fitzpatrick, Charles Woodward, Christine Rodgers, Tina Lynn Sellers, Jerry Patee, Pat Bush, and Comr. Steven Barry. Larry Daniel arrived after roll was called. Members absent: Genevieve English-Charles and Barbara Holloway. After roll call, a quorum was declared by Susan Hendrix.

             
3. Was the meeting properly advertised? - Chairman Charles Woodward and Susan Hendrix

The meeting was properly advertised in the Pensacola News Journal on August 9, 2014, as part of the Board of County Commissioners' Weekly Meeting Schedule.
             
4. Approval of Meeting Minutes from May 20, 2014 - Chairman Charles Woodward

Motion by David Fitzpatrick and seconded by Christine Rodgers to approve the meeting minutes of May 20, 2014. Motion passed by unanimous vote.
             
5. Welcome and Introduction of Special Guest(s) - Chairman Charles Woodward

New members Jerry Patee and Karen Hall were introduced by Chairman Woodward.
             
6. Extension Office Renovations - Pam Allen

Discussion was held regarding remediation and renovations needed to the Extension Office after the April 2014 flood event. Renovations for both buildings is estimated at $220,000.
             
7. Budget Process/Update - Public Budget Hearings are scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 5:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, 5:00 p.m. These hearings will be held in Board Chambers at 221 Palafox Place and are open to the public.

Pam Allen updated the Council on the county budget and let them know that both vacant positions are funded and will be filled with qualified staff.
             
8. 4-H Update - Pam Allen

a. 4-H building on Stefani Road - looking to mid-January or February 2015 move-in date
b. 4-H livestock barns on Chalker Road Property - perennial peanut and limpo grass will be planted on property
c. UF/IFAS Escambia County 4-H positions and projection of interview dates - previous candidate refused position offer. Positions are currently open for applicants.
d. Ellis Miller Retirement Celebration - Retirement Celebration scheduled for September 26, 2014, at Barrineau Park Community Center. More details will follow.
             
9. UF/IFAS Agent Presentations - Rick O'Connor, Dorothy Lee

Joint presentation by Rick O'Connor and Dorothy Lee showcasing Gulf seafood facts and preparation, with an emphasis on Lionfish availability and preparation.
             
10. Upcoming Events/Activities

August 13 Master Gardeners' Open House, Extension Office
September 13 Barrineau Park 100th 4-H Celebration, Barrineau Park Comm. Ctr.
September 26 Ellis Miller Retirement Celebration, Barrineau Park Comm. Ctr.
October 11 Master Gardeners' Fall Festival, Extension Office
November 6 Agritourism & Ecotourism Business Development Conference, Adventures Unlimited, Milton, FL. Contact Libbie Johnson or Carrie Stevenson at 475-5230.




             
11. Open Discussion -
a. Gary Purvis gave an overview of his farming operations at Sugarfoot Farm.
b. Christine Rodgers had questions regarding the new 4-H building.
c. Discussion was held on the effects of the April flood on the new 4-H building.
d. Pat Bush asked if the new 4-H building would be handicap accessible. Discussion was held pointing out accessibility requirements.
e. Next meeting date is planned for September 30, 2014, but will probably be moved up due to interviews for vacant positions.
             
12. Adjournment - Chairman Charles Woodward

Motion made by David Fitzpatrick and seconded by Karen Hall. Passed without opposition. Meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
