BACKGROUND: |
The Escambia County Engineering Department currently manages the dredging activities, with a dredging contractor, to perform the necessary dredges at approximately four-month intervals each year. The proposed dredging schedule is Spring, Summer, and Fall each year, within the contractual length of schedule. The contractor is to mechanically dredge up to 1,200 cubic yards of material, but no more than absolutely necessary for vessels to adequately navigate the canal. The area to be dredged is approximately 50' x 95' area to - 5.0 Mean Low Water at the entrance of the canal, per the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) permit. The contractor is to transport and discharge the dredged materials to the upland discharge site, which is the vacant parcel south of the existing Pensacola Beach Water Towers, located on the east side of Little Sabine Inlet.
On September 6, 2018, the Board awarded Contract PD 17-18.072, Dredging of Lafitte Cove Canal, to Coastal Reef Builders, Inc. The original Contract term allows up to two twelve-month renewal options. The first renewal was awarded by the Board on August 15, 2019. This award of a renewal would exercise the final extension of this Contract with an expiration date of September 30, 2021, which would then be the expiration of this Contract.
