From: Lumon May
Department: Commissioner, District 3
CAO Approval:

RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation Concerning the Funding Allocation to Support Light Up Learning - Early Learning Studer Community Institute - Commissioner Lumon May, District 3

That the Board approve the funding allocation of $2,500 from Commissioner Lumon May's discretionary fund to support Light Up Learning - Early Learning Studer Community Institute.

[Funding:  Fund 001, Discretionary Money, Cost Center 110101, Object Code 58201]
BACKGROUND:
In 2014, the Studer Community Institute staff's research began and two numbers stood out; only 66% of the children in Escambia County were ready for kindergarten and only 66% of the kids were graduating high school on time. The Light Up Learning Fundraiser aims to support the Institute's work to make an "Early Learning City" happen with existing organizations and businesses working together in three key areas: brain development education for Escambia County mothers within 24 hours of childbirth, parent education for children living within our County's pockets of poverty, and building learning into the external environment across the community.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
As part of the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Budget approved by the Board, each Commissioner received $50,000 to use at their discretion.
