RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation Concerning State Law Enforcement Trust Fund – Henrique Dias, Chief Financial Officer, ECSO Finance Division
 
That the Board approve the following allocations of Law Enforcement Trust (LET) Funds per the requirements of F.S. 932.7055(5) for Outside Agency partners in Escambia County for Fiscal Year 2017/2018:
 
A. West Florida High School Baseball Booster Club, in the amount of $1,000;
 
B. Robinson Harris Academy of Music, Inc., in the amount of $1,000;

C. Pensacola Chapter, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, in the amount of $3,000;

D. Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle, Inc., in the amount of $5,000;

E. Florida Association of Hostage Negotiators, in the amount of $15,000;

F. United Way of Escambia County, in the amount of $6,000;

G. Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, in the amount of $1,000;

H. Pensacola Sports, in the amount of $10,000;

I. Dixon School of the Arts, in the amount of $1,000;

J. Autism Pensacola, Inc., in the amount of $5,000; and

K. Washington High School Softball Boosters, in the amount of $500.  
 
Upon approval of these funding allocations, the Sheriff’s Office will process all appropriate paperwork and submit for payment from LET Funds to the Escambia Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller.

BACKGROUND:
Per F.S. 932.7055(5), certain law enforcement activities generate a revenue stream that must be appropriated into the Law Enforcement Trust to be expended by the Sheriff. These funds support various law enforcement related activities in Escambia County.

West Florida High School Baseball Booster Club - $1,000;
Robinson Harris Academy of Music, Inc. - $1,000;
Pensacola Chapter, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge - $3,000;
Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle, Inc. - $5,000;
Florida Association of Hostage Negotiators - $15,000;
United Way of Escambia County - $6,000;
Florida Department of Juvenile Justice -  $1,000;
Pensacola Sports - $10,000;
Dixon School of Arts - $1,000;
Autism Pensacola Inc. - $5,000;
Washington High School Softball Boosters - $500;

POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:
These funds may be expended upon request by the sheriff to the board of county commissioners or by the chief of police to the governing body of the municipality, accompanied by a written certification that the request complies with the provisions of this subsection, and only upon appropriation to the sheriff’s office or police department by the board of county commissioners or the governing body of the municipality.
