Recommendation Concerning a Resolution Supporting the 2017 Pensacola Double Bridge Run - Joy D. Blackmon, P.E., Public Works Department Director

That the Board adopt and authorize the Chairman to sign the Resolution supporting the 2017 Pensacola Double Bridge Run.

BACKGROUND:

Pensacola Sports (formerly known as Pensacola Sports Association, Inc. [PSA]) will host the 2017 Pensacola Bridge Run on February 4, 2017. The nationally-recognized race will start at the Vince Whibbs Community Maritime Park, wind through Historic Downtown before heading south across the Pensacola Bay Bridge, through Gulf Breeze, and over the Bob Sikes Bridge to Pensacola Beach. Pensacola Sports has significantly increased the event's amenities to improve the participants' experiences; they have also increased regional and national marketing efforts.

These efforts have been very successful, as the race has sold out of available entries the last three years and is now recognized as the 13th largest 15K in the country. Pensacola Sports is coordinating with the necessary government agencies to develop a plan to close the entire northbound lane of traffic on the 3 Mile Bridge for the event. To allow disruption in traffic on a state road, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requires an official letter of authorization and/or a Resolution supporting the Pensacola Double Bridge Run from Escambia County, Santa Rosa County, City of Pensacola, and the City of Gulf Breeze.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:

Kristin Hual, Assistant County Attorney, has reviewed and signed off on the Resolution.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

Public Works Department staff will coordinate with Pensacola Sports personnel and FDOT. Staff will transmit a certified copy of the Resolution to Pensacola Sports and to FDOT.
