RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Scheduling of a Public Hearing to Consider Adopting Local Technical Amendments to the Florida Building Code Specific to Floodplain Elevation Ordinance Creating Sections 14-171 through 14-174 of Chapter 14, Article IV of the Escambia County Code of Ordinances.

That the Board authorize the scheduling of a Public Hearing for January 21, 2015, at 5:32 p.m. for consideration of adopting an Ordinance creating sections 14-171 through 14-174 of Chapter 14, Article IV, Buildings and Building Regulations, applicable to Escambia County, Florida.

BACKGROUND:

Pursuant to Chapter 553.73(5), Florida Statutes, the Board is allowed adoption of local amendments to the Florida Building Code to implement the National Flood Insurance Program. The Board of County Commissioners previously adopted a requirement to increase the minimum elevation requirement for buildings and structures in flood hazard areas and pursuant to section 553.73(5), Florida Statutes. The Board is formatting that requirement to coordinate with the Florida Building Code, Residential and Building; to accurately reflect the previous increase in the minimum elevation requirements for buildings and structures in flood hazard areas, to provide for an additional three (3) feet of freeboard.
