BACKGROUND:
The solicitation was advertised in the Pensacola News Journal on February 23, 2015. Four firms were notified on February 3, 2015.  Two bids were received. Subsequently, on June 10, 2013 the Board signed Resolution (R2013-68) designating Lafitte Cove Canal as a public waterway and accepting continued maintenance of the Canal. Two bids were received on March 26, 2015.  Coastal Reef Builders Inc. is the low bid.

The Public Works Department currently manages the dredging activities, and is seeking to enter into a 3 year contract with a dredging contractor to perform the necessary dredges (4 month intervals) each year. The proposed dredging schedule is set for February, June, and October of each year within the contractual length of schedule.

The contractor is to mechanically dredge up to 1200 cubic yards of material, but no more than absolutely necessary for vessels to adequately navigate the canal. The area to be dredged is approximately a 50’ x 95’ area to - 5.0 Mean Low Water at the entrance of the canal, per the ACOE permit. The contractor is to transport and discharge the dredged materials to the upland discharge site, which is the vacant parcel south of the existing Pensacola Beach Water Towers located on the east side of the Little Sabine Inlet.
