RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Donation of Computers to Wedgewood Community Center Group, Inc. - Marilyn D. Wesley, Community Affairs Department Director

That the Board adopt the Resolution authorizing the donation of computers to Wedgewood Community Center Group, Inc., (Group) a not-for-profit Florida Corporation, for use at the Marie K. Young Wedgewood Community Center, to include computer classes to seniors, computer access to students, and computer access to the unemployed for job search purposes. The donated computers will be received by the Group "as is" with no expectation of technical or maintenance support from Escambia County.

BACKGROUND:

The Department of Community Affairs received a written request regarding the donation of surplus county computers from the Wedgewood Community Center Group in late 2014. The Information Technology Department identified and verified 8 desktop and 4 laptop computers as suitable for donation from those surplused and approved for disposal by the BCC on November 17, 2014. The written request from Wedgewood Community Center Group and a copy of the disposal recommendation are attached to this recommendation, along with the Resolution.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:

The County Attorney Office prepared and approved the Resolution as to form and legal sufficiency.

PERSONNEL:

N/A

POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:

Board action is required in accordance with Sections 274.06 and 125.38, Florida Statutes.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

The Department of Community Affairs, in conjunction with the Information Technology Department, will coordinate the donation of the computers to Wedgewood Community Center Group.
