RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation Concerning the Scheduling of a Public Hearing to Consider an Ordinance Amending and Clarifying Section 6-4(c) Relating to Open Containers on Pensacola Beach Boardwalk (a/k/a the Portofino Boardwalk)
That the Board authorize the scheduling of a Public Hearing on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 5:33 p.m. to consider adopting an Ordinance amending and clarifying Volume 1, Chapter 6, Article I, Section 6-4(c) of the Escambia County Code of Ordinances relating to open container restrictions that will apply to the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk area (a/k/a the Portofino Boardwalk).
BACKGROUND:
The Board voted on April 20, 2017, to lift open container prohibitions on Pensacola Beach between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. On April 25, 2017, the Board directed staff to bring back an amendment that would clarify Section 6-4(c) of the Escambia County Code of Ordinances. The clarification is intended to lift the open container prohibition within the boundaries of the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk premises between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., but clarify that the prohibition shall remain in effect during those hours for any public parking lot or other public areas listed in the ordinance that are adjacent to the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk is sometimes referred to as the Portofino Boardwalk.
