RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning a One-Year Extension of CareerSource Designation as a Direct Provider - Clara Long, Interim Neighborhood & Human Services Department Director

That the Board approve, and authorize the Chairman to sign, the Workforce Escarosa, Inc., dba CareerSource Escarosa request for a one-year extension as an authorized Direct Service Provider for this area, which will bring all Local Workforce Development Areas under the same organizational structure. As a designated provider, it aligns CareerSource Escarosa with Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) regulations and allows continued functions in a manner that best serve their clients and the region’s employers.

BACKGROUND:

Careersource Florida (CSF) Administrative Policy Number 083, outlines the process for Local Workforce Development Area (LWDA) to request an extension of a previous designation as a direct provider of workforce services. The request to operate is normally every three years. The Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has requested that the LWDA submit a request for a one-year extension as an authorization to be the Direct Service Provider for this area, as this will bring all LWDAs under the same cycle and organizational structure.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

There is no budgetary impact to the County.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:

Kristin Hual, Senior Assistant County Attorney, has reviewed and approved these documents as to form and legal sufficiency.

PERSONNEL:

There is no additional staff required.

POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:

Workforce Escarosa, Inc. dba CareerSource Escarosa must have approval from the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

Upon Board approval, Neighborhood & Human Services Department staff will coordinate with Workforce Escarosa, Inc., dba CareerSource Escarosa, with the submission of this request.
