BACKGROUND:
Sun Belt Conference

On February 20, 2020, the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) entered into a LOA with the Sun Belt Conference (SBC), for SBC Basketball Championships 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Based on limited seating (50%) due COVID-19, a conservative economic impact study results in the SBC contributing approximately $2.95 Million in direct and indirect impacts for the 2021 championships (see Event Impact Summary by Pensacola Sports). The impact could double if there are no venue capacity limitations and more fans/spirit groups come to Escambia County for the SBC basketball championships. This analysis does not include the added value with national radio, TV and internet promotions leading up to the championships, and live coverage of the games on the ESPN family of networks.
