7.   Other Items of Interest -
  • Nick Simmons discussed the staffing adjustment to Libbie Johnson's position. As of July 1, 2019, Libbie is now a multi-county agent, serving both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
  • Nick Simmons has been serving as Interim County Extension Director for Santa Rosa County and that temporary position will be ending soon, as Santa Rosa has hired a new CED.
  • For information purposes, there is a 3% salary increase included in the FY19/20 County budget.
  • Extension was approved for funding to replace the chairs in the auditorium.
  • A modular building is being installed on the 4-H property in Molino. We have two 24x38 modular classrooms that came from the 90&9 Boys Ranch. One of the classrooms has exterior access to a restroom. Both provide climate-controlled meeting/teaching space. A 26' storage building has also been placed on the property and will be used for storage of program supplies. The property has been greatly utilized this year. In the Spring there was a livestock show and another show is scheduled for September 28th.
  • Libbie Johnson was recognized at the State Extension meeting as being a part of the Florida promotion video. Libbie very well represented the State of Florida in spreading Extension's broad reach. Brian Estevez was recognized for being chosen 'Mentor of the Year' for 2019, and also our Military 4-H Club was recognized for their programming. Our Expanded Food & Nutrition Program (EFNEP) received the Golden Gator award recognizing them for demonstrating synergy and success through working together in a cohesive and productive way. This award celebrates the results of positive outcomes resulting from a unified, driven team.
  • It is noted that our 4-H program has increased in members and programming as a result of Jereme Johnson's coming on board as a Program Assistant. Great news!
  • It was noted that UF has a new training program available to Agents with regard to budgeting for programming. The training includes information for internal and external funding opportunities, better delivery notifications, and digital outreach through Facebook videos and county Public Information departments.
  • Nick Simmons noted that he will be engaging speakers from our local program partners to present to the Council involving collaborative efforts between Extension and our community.
  • Anne Peterson noted that she felt our parking lot was not big enough and that Extension & 4-H visitors, along with the many walkers on our campus, were competing for parking spaces. She asked about putting signs in the parking areas encouraging walkers to park in the Extension parking lot versus the 4-H parking lot. It was mentioned that the walking track has brought many visitors to our campus.
  • Beth Bolles mentioned that Master Gardeners are looking at avenues to count the foot traffic in and out of the Demonstration Garden. Also, the Master Gardeners have received a grant that will be used to purchase a Welcome sign at the garden's entrance.
  • Beth Bolles also reminded everyone about the Master Gardener's upcoming program - the Garden to Table Expo, which will be held on our campus on Saturday, October 26, 2019, 8:00 am - noon.
