Recommendation Concerning Utilization of the Second of Two Possible One-Year Renewals Provided for in the Agreement Relating to Inmate Civil Legal Services - William R. Powell, Director of Corrections
That the Board approve the utilization of the second of two possible one-year renewal periods provided for under Section 2 of the Agreement Relating to Civil Legal Services between Northwest Florida Legal Services, Inc., a Florida not-for-profit corporation and Escambia County. This Agreement covers the provision of power of attorney documents and additional civil legal services for inmates under the jurisdiction of the Escambia County Jail.

BACKGROUND:
On August 20, 2015, the County entered into an Agreement with Northwest Florida Legal Services, Inc., a Florida not-for-profit corporation for the provision of power of attorney documents and additional civil legal services for inmates under the jurisdiction of the Escambia County Jail. Section 2 of the respective Agreement outlines the term of the Agreement. The term is listed as three years with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods. It is the request of the Corrections Department that we utilize the second of the two additional one-year renewals for the period of August 20, 2019, to August 19, 2020.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:
Kristin Hual, Senior Assistant County Attorney, reviewed the initial Agreement. The utilization of the renewal period as provided for in Section 2 of the Agreement does not require an Amendment to the Agreement.

POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:
The Board has indicated that they wish to review those Agreements in which the County indicates the desire to exercise a renewal period beyond the initial term of the Agreement.
IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:
Upon approval, the Corrections Department will work with the vendor to obtain those services covered by the specified Agreement when necessary.
