Recommendation Concerning a Letter of Support for the Brownsville Slowfest 2019 - Joy Jones, P.E., Engineering Department Director

That the Board authorize the Chairman to sign the Letter of Support for the Brownsville Slowfest 2019 for the Historic Brownsville Community.

BACKGROUND:

County staff was recently approached by Mr. Christian Wagley and Mr. Mike Kilmer, requesting Board support for the upcoming Brownsville Slowfest, to be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, along West Cervantes Street between "S" and "V" Streets within the city limits.

Per the Slowfest website (www.brownsvilleslowfest.com), the intent of the event is to "re-purpose two lanes for parking and parklets." The event plans to have music, poetry, food, and art representing the diverse culture of the Brownsville community.

The organizers are responsible for receiving all necessary state and local permits, providing the necessary maintenance of traffic (MOT) plan, and installing the MOT plan to accommodate the event.

There is no funding obligation from the County.

Mr. Mike Kilmer, of the Historic Brownsville Community, submitted a Letter of Support for consideration.

Senior Assistant County Attorney, Kristin Hual, has reviewed the Letter of Support.

Upon approval, staff will provide the signed Letter of Support to the organizers for proper implementation.
