RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning Approval of the Cooperative Agreement with the Escambia County School Board Relating to Educational Services for Juvenile Inmates at the Escambia County Jail - William R. Powell, Director of Corrections

That the Board take the following action concerning the Cooperative Agreement with the Escambia County School Board relating to educational services for juvenile inmates at the Escambia County Jail:

A. Approve the Cooperative Agreement with the Escambia County School Board; and

B. Authorize the Chairman to sign the Agreement.

BACKGROUND:

The School Board and the County are mutually committed to the development of a curriculum that meets the educational, mental health, and social welfare needs of juveniles incarcerated at the Escambia County Jail. This agreement will set forth the terms and conditions where by the parties shall cooperatively provide educational services for juvenile inmates housed in the Jail.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:

Kristin Hual, Senior Assistant County Attorney, has certified that the Agreement is in order and legally sufficient.

PERSONNEL:

N/A

POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:

This recommendation is in compliance with Chapter 46, Article II of the Escambia County Code of Ordinances.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

The Escambia County Jail staff will implement the terms of this Agreement on behalf of the County, and the School District staff will implement the terms of this Agreement on behalf of the School Board.
