RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning Authorization to Take Action Regarding Defaulted Contracts for Reimbursement of Training Expenses - William R. Powell, Director of Corrections

That the Board take the following action concerning authorization for legal action related to defaulted contracts for reimbursement of training expenses:

A. Authorize the County Attorney's Office to file a small claims case against Tanner Oliver, Lance McGinnis, and Mikeasha McNeil related to the default of their respective contracts for reimbursement of training expenses; and

B. Authorize the County Attorney's Office to prepare, and the Chairman to sign, all documents related to the aforementioned action.

BACKGROUND:

In February 2018, Tanner Oliver, Lance McGinnis and Mikeasha McNeil entered into separate agreements with Escambia County. The aforementioned agreements outlined their commitments to provide two years of service to the Corrections Department post graduation from the training program. In return, the County would cover the cost of tuition, fees and uniforms associated with the training program. All three individuals tendered their resignations prior to fulfilling their two-year commitment. They were each provided a 12-month window of opportunity during which they were requested to fulfill the financial obligations of their agreement. As of the date of this recommendation, Mr. Oliver owes the County $1,921.10, Mr. McGinnis owes the County $2,035.10 and Ms. McNeil owes the County $1,828.43

The County Attorney's Office will prepare or approve all documents prior to execution by the Chairman.

Once authorized, the County Attorney's Office will file the necessary paperwork related to the small claims cases.
