| RECOMMENDATION: |
Recommendation Concerning the Issuance of a Purchase Order for Radio Equipment for the Public Safety Fire Department - Paul Nobles, Purchasing Manager, Office of Purchasing
That the Board take the following action regarding the purchase of radio equipment for the Public Safety/Fire Department:
A. Authorize the County to utilize the NASPO (National Association of State Procurement Officials) Valuepoint Contract 19860, in accordance with Escambia County, Florida, Code of Ordinances, Chapter 46, Article II, Section 46-44, Application; Exemptions; and Section 46-64, Board approval; and
B. Authorize the issuance of a Purchase Order, to Motorola Solutions, Inc., for the purchase of radio equipment for the Public Safety/Fire Department of Escambia County, Florida, in the amount of $178,678.70.

| BACKGROUND: |
Made by Motorola, the new portable radios are match our current equipment and enhance our communications abilities. Built as ruggedized radios for firefighting with bigger knobs and buttons for use with firefighting gloves. The radios also come with enhanced speaker microphones ruggedized with the same features as the radios. In addition, they are ported top and bottom allowing for water to drain and reducing the likelihood of damage. The newer radios also replace aging portable radios that will be reassigned as spares to use during disasters and special details where extra personnel are called in. The older radios while still operational are nearing their end of life. By replacing a portion of the total number yearly it allows for us to budget accordingly.
This purchase from Motorola Solutions, Inc. was organized by a representative of CES Team One Communications, Inc., which is based in Pensacola, Florida, and is the sole local distributor for Motorola products. |
