ESCAMBIA COUNTY EXTENSION COUNCIL

1.   Call to Order & Opening Remarks - Chairwoman Pat Bush

The meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m.
             
2.   Roll Call & Declaration of Quorum - Susan Hendrix

Roll was called by Susan Hendrix. Members present during roll call: Gary Purvis, Jean Yarter, Jeanene Hall, Charles Woodward, Christine Rodgers, Pat Bush, and Comr. Steven Barry. Jerry Patee arrived at 5:45 p.m. Members absent: David Fitzpatrick, Tina Sellers, Genevieve English-Charles, Darrell Black, and Janice Kilgore.
             
3.   Was the meeting properly advertised? - Chairwoman Pat Bush and Susan Hendrix

The meeting was properly advertised through a press release by Escambia County Public Information on August 6, 2015.
             
4.   Approval of Meeting Minutes from the May 12, 2015, meeting - Chairwoman Pat Bush

Motion to accept the May 12, 2015, meeting minutes was made by Comr. Steven Barry and seconded by Christine Rodgers. Unanimously approved.
             
5.   Welcome and Introduction of Special Guest(s) - Chairwoman Pat Bush

Pam Allen introduced Christina Walmer, Northwest District Coordinator for Farm to School and Farm to Community, Family Nutrition Program.
             
6.   Agent Presentation - Beth Bolles

Beth Bolles, Horticulture Agent, gave a presentation of the Master Gardeners' volunteer group training requirements and programming, highlighting their volunteer hours and community service provided throughout Escambia County.
             
7.   Presentation - Christina Walmer
Northwest District Coordinator
Farm to School & Farm to Community, FNP
UF-IFAS

Christina Walmer gave a presentation summarizing the Family Nutrition Program and her programming efforts through hands-on education imparted to school children on school and community gardening opportunities. She also coordinates with School Districts providing training for food safety and preparation of the produce grown in their school gardens and incorporating that fresh produce into their daily meal preparation.
             
8.   Other Items of Interest -

1. Pam Allen gave an overview of the different volunteer groups that fall under the Extension umbrella: Home and Consumer Education (HCE), 4-H Volunteers and Foundation, and Master Gardeners.

2. Agents Updates - Dorothy Lee (Family & Consumer Science), Angela Hinkle (Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program), Libbie Johnson (Agriculture), Hank Bignell (4-H), and Rick O'Connor (Sea Grant), gave a brief description of their current programming.

3. Pam Allen noted the new Google calendar that is embedded into our web page listing all of our programming.

4. Comr. Barry noted that he appreciated the use of the new Langley Bell 4-H Youth Center's facilities for the District 5 RESTORE meeting and was looking forward to further use of the facility.

5. Jeanene Hall noted that students will start school on Monday, August 17.

6. Jerry Patee noted the educational and feeding program he is involved with - 325 Zero Hunger. The program serves to have a positive impact on hunger within their community.

7. Pat Bush noted that the Master Gardeners had enjoyed success with their Basil program which was held at the Wesley Haven Villa Retirement and Assisted Living Facility.

8. Discussion was held on Saturday programming at the new Langley Bell 4-H Youth Center and Pam Allen explained that agents are free to schedule programming on Saturdays at their discretion.

9. Next meeting: Tuesday, November 10, 2015.
             
9.   Adjournment

Motion to adjourn was made by Gary Purvis and seconded by Charles Woodward at 6:40 p.m.
