RECOMMENDATION:

5:37 p.m. Public Hearing for Consideration of Adopting an Ordinance Creating Chapter 90, Article 10, Providing for the Creation of a Countywide Independent Special District and a Governing Board to be known as the Escambia Children's Trust.

Recommendation: That the Board adopt, and authorize the Chairman to sign, the Ordinance creating a Countywide independent special district and a governing board to be known as the Escambia Children's Trust.

BACKGROUND:

Interested citizens have approached the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners with a request to place this issue on the ballot as a referendum of the Escambia County voters. The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners addressed the item at its June 16, 2020, Committee of the Whole. The Board of County Commissioners is the entity which can direct the Supervisor of Elections to place the referendum on the ballot.

The proposed Ordinance was reviewed by Assistant County Attorney Kia M. Johnson, and was advertised in the Pensacola News Journal on June 20, 2020.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

Upon Board approval, the County Attorney's Office will work with the Clerk of the Circuit Court's Office to ensure that the Ordinance is filed with the State.
