Recommendation Concerning the Adoption of a Resolution Supporting the Naming of the New Pensacola Bay Bridge "The General Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr., Memorial Bridge" - Commissioner Robert Bender, District 4

That the Board approve, adopt, and authorize the Chairman to sign the Resolution supporting the naming of the new Pensacola Bay Bridge "The General Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr. Memorial Bridge" as recommended by the Pensacola Bay Bridge Naming Committee with an unanimous vote and send a copy of the adopted Resolution to our local Legislative delegation.

BACKGROUND:

On February 21, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners created the Pensacola Bay Bridge Naming Committee. The Committee was tasked to hold public hearings in both Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, then bring a Recommendation back to both the Board of County Commissioners and the Gulf Breeze City Council. After holding two public hearings, June 11, 2019, in Escambia County, and June 12, 2019, in Gulf Breeze, the Committee held a final meeting on July 9, 2019, and voted unanimously to submit "The General Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr. Memorial Bridge" name. The Pensacola Bay Bridge Committee consisted of: Frederick A. Davis, Jack P. Brown, Rear Admiral Peter Booth, Lawrence Powell, Rusty Branch, Gary Michaels, Edwin "Buz" Eddy, Timothy F. Burr, and Vic Bindi.

The County Attorney's Office prepared the Resolution and granted legal sign-off.

Upon Board approval, copies of the Resolution will be mailed to our Legislative Delegation.
