Recommendation Concerning a Change Order, in Excess of $50,000, to the Walton County Sheriff's Office for Inmate Medical Services - William R. Powell, Director of Corrections

That the Board approve and authorize the County Administrator to execute the following Change Order 1, adding funds for inmate medical services provided to Escambia County inmates in the custody of Walton County:

BACKGROUND:

In April 2014, historic flooding and a subsequent explosion left the Escambia County Jail's Central Booking and Detention Facility unusable. Since the Escambia County Main Jail did not possess the capacity needed to house all of the inmates that were in custody, a Memorandum of Agreement between Escambia County and the Walton County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) was entered into for the housing and care of the inmates. As part of the Agreement with Walton County, Escambia County must reimburse WCSO for any costs incurred by WCSO for outside medical care provided to inmates. Due to three unforeseen hospitalizations of Escambia County inmates being housed in Walton County, costs are projected to exceed the previously forecasted amount. The Corrections Department is requesting a Change Order, in the amount of $30,700, to cover the related expenses for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2018-2019.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

Funding is available in the General Fund 001; Inmate Medical Cost Center 290402; Object Code 53101.

POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:

This Recommendation is in compliance with the provisions of the Code of Ordinances of Escambia County, Florida, Chapter 46, Finance Article II, Purchase and Contracts.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

Upon approval of this Recommendation, a Change Order will be submitted to the Office of Purchasing for processing.
