1.   Call to Order & Opening Remarks - Chairman Shelby Johnson
  • The meeting was called to order at 5:31 PM.
             
2.   Roll Call & Declaration of Quorum - Susan Hendrix
  • Roll was called and a quorum was declared. Members present: Anne Peterson, Kevin Faircloth, Sabrena Padgett, Jennifer Thorne, Jason Gaylard, Beth Fugate, Shelby Johnson, Carol Tanksley, and Sonia Bush.
             
3.   Was the meeting properly advertised? - Susan Hendrix
  • The meeting was properly advertised in the Pensacola News Journal on Saturday, May 18, as part of the Board of County Commissioners' Weekly Meeting Schedule.
             
4.   Approval of Minutes - Chairman Johnson
  • Motion to accept the meeting minutes from January 15, 2019, was made by Anne Peterson and seconded by Kevin Faircloth. The motion passed without opposition.
             
5.   Welcome and Introduction of Special Guest(s) - Nick Simmons
  • It was noted that 4-H Member Tucker Padgett was present at the meeting.
             
6.   FY 2019/2020 Budget - Nick Simmons
  • Members were provided with a copy of 2019/2020 Proposed Budget for Extension. Nick Simmons noted that we had very little change in the budget from last year. Salary expenses change due to COLA increases, etc. It was also noted that we have been approved limited funding for replacement of the auditorium chairs.
             
7.   Agent Presentation - Angela Hinkle, Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)
  • Angela presented information on EFNEP's nutrition education programming that teaches participants healthy eating practices, shopping for healthier food strategies, food safety, along with food prep and healthier meal planning. EFNEP partners with local schools and communty programs to educate their participants, as well.
             
8.   Other Items -
  • Shelby Johnson noted that the Beekeepers Club held a program on Extension's campus recently and was very impressed with our facilities. The program was enjoyed by both club members and visitors.
  • Nick Simmons mentioned that Master Gardeners, along with Extension, held their Spring Plant Sale and Open House on April 28. Our programs and community education opportunities were showcased. Close to 300 visitors were on our campus that day.
  • Extension has just completed a Customer Service Satisfaction Survey through the University of Florida. Results will be compiled by UF and returned to us later in the summer.
  • It was noted that Extension now has a baby in our family - Brian and Mindy Estevez welcomed their son, Eli Thomas Estevez, recently. Mom, Dad, and Eli are doing well.
  • A Tree Identification Trail has been added to our walking track. Funding was provided through a grant.
  • Two modular classrooms are going in this year at our 4-H Outdoor Activity Center in Molino. Also, shooting sports enhancements have been added to the Molino property.
             
9.   Meeting adjournment - Chairman Johnson
  • Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jason Gaylard at 6:15 pm and seconded by Anne Peterson. Motion passed without opposition.
