RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Scheduling of a Public Hearing for the Fire MSBU Assessment Rate Resolution - Stephan Hall, Budget Manager, Management and Budget Services

That the Board authorize the scheduling of a Public Hearing on July 18, 2019, at 9:03 a.m., to consider approval of a Rate Resolution increasing the assessment in the Fire Municipal Services Benefit Unit (MSBU) on all properties in the unincorporated areas of Escambia County, with the exception of Santa Rosa Island.

BACKGROUND:

In Fiscal Year 2016-2017, the Board increased the Fire MSBU rate to its current level. Since the Board adopted the assessment rates for 2017, the cost of supplying fire protection services has significantly increased. Adjusting the rates will allow Escambia County to continue providing adequate fire protection services and protect the public health, safety, and welfare of its citizens.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

Adjusting the fire assessment rates will increase revenues in Fund 143, Fire Protection Fund.

The Board must approve the scheduling of public hearings.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

Affected property owners will be notified of the date, time and place of the public hearing by advertisement in the Pensacola News Journal.
