RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation Concerning the USDA Summer Feeding Program in Escambia County - Todd Humble, Library Services Director

That the Board grant approval for the West Florida Public Library System to operate the free USDA summer meal service for children in areas of Escambia County.
BACKGROUND:
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. This service is offered at no cost to the communities it serves. Escambia County has taken part in the past and would like to do so again. This program has been operated at the Quintette Community Center, Carver Park, Wedgewood, Brownsville, Ebenwood, and will so again this year with the addition of the Pensacola Library, Molino Branch Library, and the Century Branch Library as three new sites for access to this service with the approval of the BoCC.

N/A
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:
Escambia County legal department has been provided the details of the program.
PERSONNEL:
Library Services personnel will run the program.  All three sites requested will offer hot lunches Monday thru Friday and the Molino and Pensacola sites will offer the cold breakfast option from 9am to 10am prior to library opening.
POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:
Because this will be a county operated program, approval of the Board is sought.
IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:
Library Services will run the program over the summer of 2018 ending the first week of August.
