RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation Concerning the Student Internship Agreement Between the University of West Florida and Escambia County, Florida - William R. Powell, Director of Corrections

That the Board take the following action concerning the Student Internship Agreement Between the University of West Florida and Escambia County, Florida:

A. Approve the Student Internship Agreement between the University of West Florida and Escambia County, Florida, that provides for a comprehensive learning experience for participating students from the University of West Florida's Department of Psychology within the professional setting of the Escambia County Corrections Department; and

B. Authorize the Chairman to execute the Agreement.

[Funding:  The partnership established by this Agreement will not result in additional costs to the County or the University of West Florida]
BACKGROUND:
In an attempt to create a partnership between the University of West Florida and Escambia County that will result in increased interest for those careers available within the Escambia County Department of Corrections, Inmate Medical section, the Department is requesting approval of this Student Internship Agreement.  The approval of the referenced agreement will result in a collaborative partnership between the County and the University of West Florida's Department of Psychology.  This collaborative partnership will allow students to participate in a three-semester internship totaling 1,000 hours.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
The partnership established by this agreement will not result in additional costs to the County.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:
Kristin Hual, Assistant County Attorney, has certified that the agreement is in order and legally sufficient.
PERSONNEL:
The Escambia County Department of Corrections has designated Tara Raulston, LMHC as the preceptor for the program.
POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:
This recommendation complies with County Ordinance, Chapter 46, Article II, Section 46-64, providing for Board approval of all agreements/contracts.
IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:
Upon approval, Tara Raulston, LMHC will coordinate with the University of West Florida in order to implement the terms of this agreement.
