Recommendation Concerning the Funding Allocation for the Juan Sebastian de Elcano Ship Welcome Celebration - Commissioner Robert Bender, County Commissioner, District 4

That the Board approve the funding allocation of $2,000 from Commissioner Robert Bender's Discretionary Fund to sponsor the Juan Sebastian de Elcano Ship Welcome Celebration hosted by Seville Quarter, Pensacola Navy League, City of Pensacola, and Escambia County to be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, from 5:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m.

BACKGROUND:

This donation will assist the Pensacola Navy League, Escambia County, the City of Pensacola, and Seville Quarter in welcoming the Spanish Royal Navy tall ship Juan Sebastian de Elcano to Pensacola. The Elcano will be in Pensacola from March 31, 2019, through April 5, 2019. The ship will enter Pensacola Bay to a cannon salute at 8:00 a.m., March 31, 2019, before docking at Plaza de Luna in Historic Downtown Pensacola. The visit is part of a world cruise to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the earth, led by Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

As part of the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Budget approved by the Board, each Commissioner received $50,000 to use at their discretion.
