RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Discussion of Potential Enhancements and Additions at Lexington Terrace Park, located at 900 S. Old Corry Field Road - Michael Rhodes, Parks and Recreation Department Director

That the Board consider potential enhancements and additions to the existing Lexington Terrace Park. Enhancements to be reviewed and considered may include, but are not limited to, a dirt bike racing track, a public-accessible bike path area, and a disc golf course.

BACKGROUND:

Lexington Terrace Park is a County-owned park property consisting of approximately 40 acres. Current amenities include a mid-sized community center, a large pavilion, several small pavilions, a dog park, outdoor basketball courts, and a playground. Much of the park property is still open and under-utilized, which presents ample room for quality and unique amenity additions to our County-owned, existing park footprint. When researching other surrounding areas, it was noted that our area was absent of a bike racing area, conducive for competitive and recreational riding. Bike riding and dirt bike racing are simple recreational activities and sports, that are inclusive and inexpensive when compared to other individual and team sports. The Parks and Recreation Department contacted the local BMX bike club and collaborated on initial ideas in addition to a very rough draft layout that would be compatible at the Lexington Terrace Park location, should this be moved forward.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

County funding to be determined after establishment and commitment from outside agency and private funding.
