RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the West Florida Public Libraries Operational Calendar - Todd Humble, Library Services Department Director

That the Board take the following action:

A. Approve ALL library staff to gather at the Pensacola Public Library the morning of Monday, May 22, 2017, at 8:00 a.m. for a four-hour training: and

B. Authorize Escambia County libraries to remain closed to the public until 2:00 p.m., thus allowing staff time to travel back to their normal service location, prepare facilities to open, and have an unpaid lunch break prior to opening at 2:00 p.m. Library branches normally closed on Mondays include the Century Branch, the Genealogy Branch, and the Bookmobile.

BACKGROUND:

In order to better serve the residents of Escambia County, training staff on topics like customer service and library procedures and policies is required from time to time.

PERSONNEL:

This complements the individual opportunities that County Employees have to apply for the Job-Related Education Assistance Program and Tuition Reimbursement. By means of these existing programs, established through approved BCC Policy, the BCC encourages its employees to enhance their effectiveness through education and training, to develop their skills and knowledge, and improve their ability to carry out their assigned duties. A West Florida Public Libraries Staff Training Day serves to ensure that all staff of the Library System have the opportunity for increased professional development.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

The Library Director will work with the Office of Community and Media Relations to provide Escambia County residents sufficient notice of all Library closures. This includes but is not limited to postings at Library facilities.
