RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning County Representation on the City Council's Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Task Force - Jack R. Brown, County Administrator

That the Board take the following action regarding the County's Representation on the City Council's Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Task Force:

A. Approve Carrie Stevenson, Extension Agent III, to serve as the County's representative on the City Council's Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Task Force; and

B. Approve Matt Posner, RESTORE Coordinator, to serve as Alternate in case Carrie Stevenson cannot attend a meeting.

BACKGROUND:

The City of Pensacola's Environmental Advisory Board has initiated a local climate change task force. The Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Task Force will be used to help the City of Pensacola and the surrounding region adapt to the increasing climate change. Some of the key objectives and goals for the task force will include the development of adaptation and mitigation strategies to enhance the region's resilience and preparation for withstanding the impacts of climate change, including flooding resulting from heavy participation, rising sea levels, strong hurricanes, and other extreme weather events. The task force will also develop public outreach and educational programs to encourage residents, business owners, and organizations to participate in the local Climate Change Plan. Another goal is to develop strategies to obtain federal and state grants, energy costs savings, and other financial resources to offset program costs.

No budgetary impact to the County.
