RECOMMENDATION:

5:34 p.m. Public Hearing to Consider an Ordinance Creating Volume I, Chapter 100, Article I, Sections 100-1 through 100-6 Establishing the Escambia-Pensacola Human Relations Commission.

Recommendation: That the Board adopt an Ordinance creating Volume I, Chapter 100, Article I, Sections 100-1 through 100-6 of the Escambia County Code of Ordinances establishing the Escambia-Pensacola Human Relations Commission.

BACKGROUND:

The Escambia-Pensacola Human Relations Commission was created by Interlocal Agreement by and between Escambia County, Florida and the City of Pensacola. The purpose of the EPHRC is to provide the community with local assistance to review and resolve employment and fair housing discrimination complaints and improve community relations for all persons in Escambia County regardless of race, color, national origin, age, disability, family or religious status.

Effective April 1, 2019, the County and City intend to terminate the Interlocal Agreement, and the operation of the Commission will be suspended for a period of thirty (30) days to allow for a restructuring of the organization. This ordinance will serve to reestablish the EPHRC and further define the composition, duties and powers of the Commission for the purpose of continuing to provide the community with local assistance to review and resolve employment and fair housing discrimination complaints and improve community relations in Escambia County.
