RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Scheduling of a Public Hearing to Consider Amending Volume 1, Chapter 10, Article I, Section 10-11(c), Section 10-14(g),and Section 10-18 of the Escambia County Code of Ordinances, Regarding Animal Control - Tim Tolbert, Building Official/Department Director

That the Board authorize the scheduling of a Public Hearing for April 4th, 2019, at 5:31 p.m., for consideration of adopting an Ordinance amending Volume 1, Chapter 10, Article I, Section 10-11, Section 10-14, and Section 10-18, of the Escambia Code of Ordinances, regarding Animal Control.

BACKGROUND:

The Escambia County Disability Awareness Committee voted to recommend that Staff amend Escambia County Ordinance Sections 10-11, 10-14 and 10-18. The recommendation asks that references to "blind or hearing Impaired" be removed and replaced with "persons with disabilities". It is important to put the person first and recognize the individuality of a person who has a disability rather than referring to the person as the disability.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:

The proposed Ordinance was drafted by Assistant County Attorney, Meredith D. Crawford. The proposed Ordinance will be advertised in the Saturday Edition of the Pensacola News Journal on March 9, 2019.
