RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Contract for the Florida Department of Health for Operation of the Escambia County Health Department - Marie Brady Mott, JD, MS, RDN, CSSD, LDN, Administrator, Florida Department of Health in Escambia County

That the Board take the following action concerning the Contract for the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County:

A. Approve the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County Contract, providing for an effective date for the Contract year of October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2021; and

B. Authorize the Chairman to sign the Contract.

BACKGROUND:

Annually, the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners and the State of Florida, Department of Health, enter into a Contract for the operation of the Escambia County Health Deparment, as authorized by Florida Statutes, Chapter 154.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners agrees to appropriate $337,649 to Escambia County Health Department for the Fiscal Year October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2021.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:

Section 154.01 Florida Statutes states that "The several Counties of the state may cooperate with the Department of Health in the establishment and maintenance of full-time County health departments in such Counties for the promotion of the public's health, the control and eradication of preventable diseases, and the provision of primary care for special populations. The Department of Health shall enter into Contracts with several Counties of the purposes of this part."
