RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning Authorization to Take Action Regarding Defaulted Contracts for Reimbursement of Training Expenses - William R. Powell, Director of Corrections

That the Board take the following action concerning authorization for legal action related to defaulted Contracts for reimbursements of training expenses:

A. Authorize the County Attorney's Office to file a small claims case against Jonathan Bentley, related to the default of his respective Contracts for reimbursement of training expenses; and

B. Authorize the County Attorney's Office to prepare, and the Chairman to sign, all documents related to the aforementioned action.

BACKGROUND:

Jonathan Bentley entered into an Agreement with Escambia County in February 2018. The aforementioned Agreement outlined commitments to provide two years of service to the Corrections Department post graduation from the training program. In return, the County would cover the cost of tuition, fees, and uniforms associated with the training program. Mr. Bentley tendered his resignation prior to fulfilling the two-year commitment. Mr. Bentley was provided a 12-month window of opportunity during which he was requested to fulfill the financial obligations of the Agreement. As of the day of this Recommendation, Mr.Bentley owes the County $927.10.

The County Attorney's Office will prepare or approve all documents prior to execution by the Chairman.

Once authorized, the County Attorney's Office will file the necessary paperwork related to the small claim case.
