This Purchase Order will be used to pay for the annual renewal for the software license subscriptions with Verizon Wireless for 36 traffic signals equipped with Miovision Smartlink devices, which provide interface connectivity to the county's Traffic Signals Operations Center (TSOC). The annual renewal fee for each device is $1,000. This is a necessary expense, as the use of this software will ensure continuity of mission-critical services by the Board of County Commissioners to the citizens of Escambia County.
Having the Miovision Smartlink devices installed at traffic signals provides remote access to traffic signal cabinet controllers, and offers staff the ability to manipulate traffic signal timings to accommodate traffic flow/patterns, process real-time data collection, receive immediate alerts of signal issues, and to assess the condition of the traffic signals.
There are significant cost savings to having remote access to traffic signals, including the elimination and/or reduction of the number of field visits required for response issues or complaints, and the means to generate traffic studies/reports almost immediately, rather than having to consult with a vendor.
Attached is a list of the current Miovision locations (36), and the additional 25 locations that have either recently been installed or will be installed soon. The additional 25 locations will be added to the Fiscal Year 2020/2021 budget. The locations on the list in bold font are County traffic signals (15), and the other locations are owned by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) (21). The 21 FDOT traffic signals will be paid for using the annual maintenance compensation that Escambia County receives to maintain the signals on the State Highway System.
