RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation Concerning a Request to Serve Alcohol in the Brownsville Community Resource Center During the Navratri Festival on Saturday, October 21, 2017 - Tonya Gant, Neighborhood & Human Services Department Director
 

That the Board approve the request by the Gulf Coast Indian Association to serve alcohol in the Brownsville Community Resource Center on Saturday, October 21 2017, during the Navratri Festival.
BACKGROUND:

The Gulf Coast Indian Association, Inc., (GCIA) is a not-for-profit organization consisting of local members of the Indian community comprised of hundreds of business owners and professionals from hotels, fast-food restaurants, convenient stores, and other respected professionals from healthcare, engineering, and accounting industries. Each year, this community hosts a very religious and auspicious event for the community, known as Navratri. The GCIA received Board of County Commissioners approval to host this event in the Brownsville Community Center during FY 2013/2014 and FY 2014/2015.

The GCIA has submitted Certificate of Insurance, and received Risk Management approval, to cover all activities at the center during the following dates: September 22, 23, 28, 29, 30, and October 21, 2017.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

The GCIA has submitted application and paid the rental fee for the six (6) day event.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS/SIGN-OFF:

The County Attorney’s Office has approved the Facility Rental Application and Agreement for the Brownsville Community Resource Center, for form and legal sufficiency.

PERSONNEL:

N/A

POLICY/REQUIREMENT FOR BOARD ACTION:

Consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited at all times within the structure of the Community Center. The request requires approval of the Board of County Commissioners.

IMPLEMENTATION/COORDINATION:

The Department of Neighborhood and Human Services will coordinate the opening and closing of the Center with the GCIA, and/or Jay Patel, as the GCIA's contact for this event.
