BACKGROUND: |
Following the April 2014 storm event, the area of Blue Springs Avenue, within the Crescent Lake subdivision, suffered significant damage to public infrastructure and private properties. Escambia County responded with the Crescent Lake Dam Project (funded by National Resources Conservation Services), Blue Springs Avenue FEMA repair project, and East Shore Drive FEMA outfall pipe replacements to Crescent Lake.
Given the extent of damage, the Blue Springs Avenue at Clearwater Avenue Drainage Analysis was also completed to identify drainage deficiencies, and determine the best approach alternatives to mitigate future re-occurrence of such drainage impacts. Stormwater attenuation improvements in the upstream basin, contributing to Blue Springs Avenue, were determined necessary in the area of Sun Valley Drive, Glass Drive, and Clearwater Avenue. Potential stormwater improvements for Empire Pit were also referred to FDOT for consideration. The recommended alternative is to maximize the pond stormwater volume, depending upon successful property acquisition.
These parcels, while not part of Crescent Lake subdivision, are necessary to provide area for design/construction of a stormwater management system, to optimize flood reduction, and to improve water quality for Crescent Lake. |
