RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation Concerning the Amendment to Pensacola Bay Center Ice Hockey License Agreement - Amy Lovoy, Assistant County Administrator

That the Board approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the Amendment to Pensacola Bay Center Ice Hockey License Agreement between Escambia County, Florida, Pensacola Ice LLC, and SMG for the presentation of professional ice hockey. The Amendment modifies the Agreement approved by the Board on September 24, 2015, to include provisions for any future agreement that may be entered into by the County for the presentation of professional basketball at the Pensacola Bay Center; schedule adjustments for home ice hockey games and playoff games; and to increase the term of the current Agreement from three years to six years.

BACKGROUND:

On September 24, 2015, the Board approved the Pensacola Bay Center Ice Hockey License Agreement with Pensacola Ice, owner of the Pensacola Ice Flyers, and SMG, the management company for the Pensacola Bay Center, for an exclusive license to use the Bay Center for professional ice hockey games. From recently expressed interest in the potential use of the Pensacola Bay Center for professional basketball games at some future date, it was determined that the current Ice Flyers agreement would need to be amended. Based on Board discussion at the Committee of the Whole Workshop held on September 14, 2017, staff negotiated an amendment to the subject agreement.
